Ever Yearned for Your Own Bed While Traveling? Me too.

I’m making this post excessively short because I have so much to do before I leave Dahab tomorrow. At noon I’ll be taking a bus to Cairo, where I’ll be spending one night and one day before I…fly home. It was two years ago that I left.

What is the one thing about my home that I’ve missed most over the past two years? My bed, of course. I know most travelers often yearn for their own beds. Well, mine is king sized, plush, perfect – and purple! And although I’m sad to be leaving, I am looking very forward to climbing back into it.

I’ll be writing more posts after I arrive home, including my incredible time at the awesome Hilton Dahab Resort, which I’m checking out of tomorrow. Until then, I leave you with…my bed. Is it not awesome?

Home Sweet Bed

What about you? Whether you’re in the process of booking flights to India for a trip to Goa or maybe a holiday in Dubai, you probably sometimes think of the comforts of home. What’s the comfort of home do you most yearn for while traveling?

That’s a huge bed. I can see why you’d miss it.

For me, I usually miss my shower especially if I’m staying mostly in hostels. Many of the places I’ve stayed in had lousy water flow and was either way too hot or too cold to stand for long periods of time.

There is nothing quite as wonderful as sleeping in your own bed. I hear, Sabina. That’s one reason I cannot be a nomad. I’d miss my own bed too much. I have a king-sized bed with an 8 inch memory foam mattress. It is SO comfy. Have a safe trip home!

Hi Steve, that’s interesting. I’ve never missed my shower, although while traveling it is annoying to use showers that don’t work properly or are disgusting. I think the reason why I’m not very into it is because you’re just in and out of the shower, whereas bed time is for hours. :)

Hi Gray, it’s great to know you understand. Having just awakened in my bed for the first time in two years, I can tell you it is way, way better than I remember it. I’ve slept in several five-star beds recently in my travels, and mine has them beat. It’s a good thing I didn’t remember quite how great it was while I was gone ;)

  5. Very happy to hear you made it back home safely and that your bed is so great. It’s fantastic that you have something so significant as the ability to super sleep to get you excited about returning, at least for this part. I didn’t miss my bed while traveling, yet now I’m feeling inspired to get a better bed!

Thanks, Ayelet! I do believe this bed is the best in the world. I can’t get over it. I hope it lasts forever!

I don’t miss my bed while travelling, but then I live in a really tiny studio in London and I have a fold-out sofa bed which isn’t all that comfortable. Most places I’ve stayed (even hostels) have more comfortable beds than my own! ha. I tend to miss my kitchen though, because I love cooking.

Hi Caitlin – It’s nice you can find more comfortable beds than your own while traveling. I can understand missing your kitchen, but I don’t quite feel the same, as cooking is not my forte at all :)

That IS an awesome bed. I miss my bed at my dad’s house…not so much at my mum’s house. It’s kinda lumpy and in need of a new mattress. Still, both are better than my monstrous single bed here in Korea.

Hi Tom – Single beds are horrible. They’re too small for most humans. They should stop producing them.
